The Story Of Our Sun Tandem Bicycle

I used to love riding bikes as a kid growing up in Southern California. For me it wasn'€™t about exercise, although that certainly was a great side effect. It was all about hanging out and having fun with my friends in the neighborhood.

As I got older my friends moved away and I got my license and my car started to replace my bike as my mode of transportation and means of hanging out with my peers. Years later I met the woman that would be my wife and upon meeting her parents for the first time they showed me they had a Sun tandem bicycle. It was a used tandem bicycle that was just collecting dust in their garage. I know we didn'€™t have a tandem bicycle trailer or anything but my soon-to-be-wife and I managed to get it all the way home in the back of her Buick.

After riding it for the first time with her I remembered what it was like to be a kid again, riding a bike just to have fun. But now it was so much better because I had the woman I loved right behind me the whole way. She wasn'™t pedaling - she is definitely the type of person to make me do all the work. So that is something you may have to work out before you start getting into it.

We both got really into our Sun tandem bike. We would go to the big bike shop in our town on the weekends and would look for tandem bicycle parts, we even looked at upgrading to a better brand maybe a Kent tandem bicycle or a Cannondale tandem bicycle. In the end we decided to stick with our old Sun tandem bicycle until the day when it becomes to unusable to ride any longer. Early on during our trips to the bike store my wife and I decided that a recumbent tandem bicycle wasn't going to cut it for us. For one, it looks weird. I'€™ve seen people on regular recumbent bicycles and I can never get over how odd it looks. I can take the looks from people adoring us from their cars. You can almost hear the women slapping their husbands on the arm as they drive by saying "look at those two, they must be so in love. Why can’t you ever do anything romantic like that?"

� Thanks to our tandem bicycle I'€™ve grown closer to my wife, we talk more on our rides around the neighborhood. This translates to better communication at home. We get out and exercise more. And hopefully when we eventually have children I'™m sure we're going to have to look into getting a Sun tandem bike for the kids.
